How It Works

Three steps to a data-backed resale estimate

1

Upload a photo

Take or upload a clear photo of the item you want to price. Works on phone or desktop.

2

AI matches eBay listings

Our AI identifies your item and searches thousands of current eBay listings for close matches.

3

Get your estimate

See a price estimate with a range, confidence score, and comparable listings you can review.

How We Calculate Resale Value

Item Value Checker uses AI image recognition to identify your item, then cross-references it against thousands of comparable eBay listings. Unlike simple keyword searches, our system analyzes visual similarity, condition cues, brand markers, and model details to find the most relevant comparables.

The estimated value is the median of those comparable eBay listings, adjusted down by a typical resale factor — asking prices run higher than what items finally sell for, so we correct for that to give you a realistic sale estimate rather than an inflated number. Each estimate includes a price range (low to high) and a confidence score so you can gauge reliability.

eBay is the largest secondhand marketplace in the world with over 1.9 billion live listings. Its marketplace pricing is the industry standard for resale, used by pawn shops, consignment stores, estate liquidators, and individual resellers. Whether you are cleaning out a garage, running a resale business, or settling an estate, eBay's market prices are a defensible reference for fair value.

Tips for Getting a Better Estimate

1

Use good lighting

Natural light works best. Avoid harsh shadows or flash glare that can obscure brand logos and condition details.

2

Show the whole item

Capture the full item in frame. Cropped or partial photos make it harder to identify the exact product.

3

Include brand markings

If your item has a visible brand logo, model number, or label, make sure it is in the photo. Brand identification dramatically improves accuracy.

4

Plain background

A clean, uncluttered background helps the AI focus on your item instead of surrounding objects.

Frequently asked questions

How much is this worth?
Upload a clear photo of your item and the tool returns an estimated resale range based on recent comparable eBay listings for the same or similar items. The estimate is a market-based guide, not an exact price — actual buyer offers depend on condition, completeness (box, accessories), and current demand.
How do I take a picture to see how much something is worth?
Use natural daylight, lay the item on a plain background, and shoot straight-on so the brand, model, and condition are all visible in one frame. Then upload the photo here — the system identifies the item and pulls comparable eBay listings so you can see what similar items are going for.
How much is this item worth used?
Used resale value depends on brand, model, condition, completeness, and current demand. A photo-based check compares current eBay listings for matching items in similar condition and adjusts for typical resale, giving you a realistic range — not a wishlist asking price.
What is this worth?
You don’t need to know the brand or model first — upload a photo and the image recognition identifies the item, then pulls matching eBay listings to show what it’s worth. This is the fastest way to value an unfamiliar item, an inherited piece, or a thrift-store find when you can’t tell what you’re looking at.
How much are these worth?
If you’re valuing several items at once — a bundle, a lot, or an estate haul — check each one individually and add up the estimated ranges, since buyers price per item, not per pile. For large batches, Pro’s bulk mode lets you drop multiple photos at once and get an estimate for each, which is faster than one-at-a-time for cleanouts and thrift hauls.
Is the item value checker really free?
Yes — unlimited photo-based value checks with no signup, no credit card, and no premium tier required. Optional Pro upgrades exist for high-volume resellers, but every estimate on the homepage is free.
How accurate are the estimates?
The tool pulls comparable current eBay listings and applies a resale adjustment, then shows a confidence-scored range. For high-volume categories — sneakers, electronics, tools — accuracy is usually within ±10%. For rare or one-off items, the range widens and you should verify with a second comp before pricing.
Can I use this estimate for Poshmark, Mercari, or Facebook Marketplace?
Yes. eBay market-price data is the most reliable resale benchmark across every marketplace. Most resellers price slightly below their eBay comp on Poshmark and Mercari to account for those platforms’ lower buyer reach, and roughly equal on Facebook Marketplace local pickup.
