How It Works

Three steps to a data-backed resale estimate

1

Upload a photo

Take or upload a clear photo of the item you want to price. Works on phone or desktop.

2

eBay image search finds matches

Your photo is compared with visually similar current active eBay listings.

3

Get your estimate

See a price estimate with a range, confidence score, and comparable listings you can review.

How We Calculate Resale Value

Item Value Checker sends your photo to eBay's image search and receives visually similar active listings. Those listings show current asking prices, not completed transactions, so the matches are a starting point rather than proof of what buyers paid.

We remove extreme price outliers, calculate the median and range of the remaining active listings, and apply a fixed 0.85 multiplier to the median. In other words, the point estimate is 15% below the median asking price. The range shows the filtered asking-price spread, while the confidence score shows how tightly those prices cluster.

Treat the result as a directional estimate, not a sale prediction or appraisal. Inspect the returned matches for the correct model and condition, and verify important pricing, sourcing, insurance, or legal decisions manually with eBay's Sold Items filter or a qualified appraiser.

For a separate look at how people use the product, read our 30-day usage report covering 4,642 successful estimates. The report measures product activity, not estimate accuracy or completed sales.

Tips for Getting a Better Estimate

1

Use good lighting

Natural light works best. Avoid harsh shadows or flash glare that can obscure brand logos and condition details.

2

Show the whole item

Capture the full item in frame. Cropped or partial photos make it harder to identify the exact product.

3

Include brand markings

If your item has a visible brand logo, model number, or label, make sure it is in the photo. Those details can improve the relevance of the returned matches.

4

Plain background

A clean, uncluttered background helps the AI focus on your item instead of surrounding objects.

Frequently asked questions

How much is this worth?
Upload a clear photo of your item and the tool returns an estimated resale range based on recent comparable eBay listings for the same or similar items. The estimate is a market-based guide, not an exact price — actual buyer offers depend on condition, completeness (box, accessories), and current demand.
How do I take a picture to see how much something is worth?
Use natural daylight, lay the item on a plain background, and shoot straight-on so the brand, model, and condition are all visible in one frame. Then upload the photo here — the system identifies the item and pulls comparable eBay listings so you can see what similar items are going for.
How much is this item worth used?
Used resale value depends on brand, model, condition, completeness, and current demand. A photo-based check compares active eBay asking listings, removes extreme outliers, and adjusts the median asking price down 15%. The result is directional, so inspect the matches and verify important decisions with eBay Sold Items.
What is this worth?
You don’t need to know the brand or model first — upload a photo and eBay image search returns visually similar active listings. Review those matches carefully: image similarity can confuse models, editions, or conditions, so the result is a quick directional estimate rather than an identification or appraisal.
How much are these worth?
If you’re valuing several items at once — a bundle, a lot, or an estate haul — check each one individually and add up the estimated ranges, since buyers price per item, not per pile. For large batches, Pro’s bulk mode lets you drop multiple photos at once and get an estimate for each, which is faster than one-at-a-time for cleanouts and thrift hauls.
Is the item value checker really free?
Yes, photo-based value checks are free with no signup, no credit card, and no premium tier required. Optional Pro upgrades exist for high-volume resellers, but every estimate on the homepage is free.
How accurate are the estimates?
There is no fixed accuracy guarantee. The tool compares active eBay asking listings, applies a 15% downward adjustment to the median, and shows the listing range plus a price-cluster confidence score. Wrong visual matches, condition, rarity, shipping, and demand can move the actual sale price substantially. Check the returned listings and manually verify eBay Sold Items before making an important decision.
Can I use this estimate for Poshmark, Mercari, or Facebook Marketplace?
Use it as an initial reference, not a cross-market guarantee. The estimate starts with active eBay asking listings, while fees, shipping, local pickup, buyer demand, and completed-sale prices differ by marketplace. Check comparable sold or completed items on the marketplace where you plan to list before setting the final price.
